Hand Held Metal Detectors & Search Techniques.

This course is designed to provide a Practical and Competent Training & Skills package for Teachers/Security staff who are expected to search others for knives,Offensive weapons, Illegal Substances and Prohibited Items.

Areas covered within this course include:

  • Underpinning Legal information: The Violent Crime Reduction Act, The 2006 Education and Inspections Act, The Occupiers Liability Act, The Health and Safety at Work Act, The Human Rights Act 1998 and Department for Education and Skills Guidance issued in 2007.
  • Definition and clarification of various terms including: Theft, Assault, Trespass, Reasonable Grounds, Arrest, Arrestable Offence, Offensive Weapon, Self search etc.
  • The risks associated with knives and edged weapons in the UK.
  • Police Liaison and the possible use of private security firms.
  • Reasonable Grounds and Reasonable Suspicion for Searching.
  • Consent Search: Non-Contact and Low-Contact Screening, including use of walk-through archways and hand-held wands. 
  • Managing Searches Safely: Compliance with The Health and Safety at Work Act and supporting Regulations and The Human Rights Act 1998.
  • Location and Environment.
  • Extent of search: How far we can go, what is and what is not allowed in terms of clothing removal etc. Includes how to get suspects to undertake a self-search.
  • The power to seize weapons and the use of Physical Force.
  • Storing and surrendering confiscated weapons.
  • The use of security wands for the purpose of searching individuals for items concealed upon their person, including: the various types of wand, how the wands work, how to use the wand, practice sessions in searching with wands, the benefits and limitations of wands, cleaning, calibration, maintenance and storage in line with the PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment) Regulations 1998.
  • Practical searching sessions including: Undertaking searches in staff teams, undertaking a search of a person and baggage searches, including protocols and procedures for what to do if a weapon is found.

Conflict Management awareness

This course has been designed to provide a competent practical understanding of Conflict Management and dealing with violence in the work place.  This course is a must for any employer who’s staff have dealings with the general public, Shops, Leisure facilities,etc. This package is only available to companies and groups and the cost provides places for up to 20 students, please state the date the course is required in the custon details box when paying via paypal or email courses@sds-solutions.org with details of your requirements.
